The future of some low-impact inshore fisheries is under threat.  Non-quota stocks lack data, there is often little or no management of the larger offshore fleet targeting these fisheries, leading to uncontrolled over-fishing.  

Oyster beds filter the water column, removing nitrogen, sequestering carbon and providing habitats for hundreds of species. Tragically, they have disappeared around the UK’s coastline and these critical services have been lost from the environment.

The Solent Seascape Project is the first nature-based solutions and seascape scale recovery restoration project of its kind in the UK.

Historically, a vast kelp forest teeming with life stretched along the Sussex coast, providing a highly productive and biodiverse habitat for marine life.

Once widespread in UK rivers, European sturgeon are now critically endangered due to river dams, pollutions and fishing. BLUE is working to restore the UK’s population of this prehistoric fish.

The Wild Oysters Project aims to build capacity for large-scale restoration by investing in the local area through volunteering, education outreach and citizen science.
