Over the years we’ve had people row and sail across Oceans, run marathons, host yoga sessions, and hold birthday fundraisers all in support of Blue Marine’s work. Whether you want to host your own event, join a pre-existing challenge like a marathon, or set your own personal challenge, have a look at the outstanding stories from people, like you, who wanted to make a difference and made it.

Blue Challenge stories

In case you need inspiration, have a look at the outstanding stories of people like you who wanted to make a difference and made it.

Looking back on our journey, we are filled with gratitude for the experiences shared, the lessons learned, and the friendships forged. Our journey across the Atlantic Ocean may have come to an end, but the funds raised for Blue Marine will have a lasting impact in helping to protect our oceans.

Competing in the 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 was a personal milestone, but even more meaningful was the opportunity to represent Cabinair Services in supporting Blue Marine Foundation. As a company committed to sustainability in aviation, Cabinair Services chose to stand behind a cause that protects the oceans we all depend on. This race became a symbol of endurance, responsibility and collective action. I’m proud to have carried their name across the finish line and even prouder of the impact we’ve made together through this campaign.

Running the Paris Marathon 2025 for Blue Marine Foundation was unforgettable—my first ever event, I was equally nervous and excited at the start line. The atmosphere was electric with crowds cheering and enthusiastically waving banners. Somehow, every ‘Super Mario’ power-up sign that I bashed gave me a real boost—something that needs studying! Despite my knees protesting halfway through and the final miles being a true test of endurance, I loved every moment. There’s something powerful about seeing thousands of people push through pain for causes they deeply care about, mine being the Blue Marine Foundation.

Coming from the Highlands, I have always been an outdoors person and climbed my first Munro when I was 5 years old. When I was eighteen, I joined the RAF, and three years into my service I had a bad motorbike accident where I broke my back, shattered my elbow, dislocated my shoulder, and broke my hand. As a keen scuba diver I have been fortunate enough to dive all around the world. From the Caribbean and Red Sea to right here in Scotland. I’ve seen first hand the effects of climate change from coral reef bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef, to over fishing and pollution in the Mediterranean. Over the years I’ve brushed paths with giant sea turtles, lobsters and sharks and every single creature and plant is vital to the biodiversity of our oceans.

What I’ve seen fills me with wonder and a need to protect it.

After getting battered by Nevis then getting lost coming out of scaffel pike and stuck in traffic on route to snowdon we were hard pushed to complete. We’d set aside 4 hours per hill and only had 3 when we arrived in Wales. Only two of us embarked on it and with a bad knee, got up it and back down with 20mins to spare.

A challenging experience heightened by me only losing my Dad 3 days prior but not wanting to let the charity down.

I and a team of friends took on the 9 Edges Walk (23 miles with over 1,200m elevation) in the Peak District in April. I have a degree in Marine Conservation so was wanting to relay my education into tangible action and was very excited when I got the chance to propose this walk as a fundraising challenge. We are passionate about driving positive change both in the tech world and wanted to relay this by supporting BMF’s mission to restore ocean health.

It was an incredible day with strong and positive vibes. The sun was out in full force. Around 16km in I myself hit a wall with the distance but luckily we ran into a coffee van on the side of the road which provided us with all much needed energy. Because we were doing the walk back to front, most of the walk was a gradual uphill. This just meant that the further and further we walked, the harder and harder it felt.

However, knowing we were doing this for a fantastic cause, kept the morale high and allowed us to trek onwards.

The ocean can recover faster than anyone thought possible. It can thrive beyond our wildest dreams. If it is left alone it can bounce back.
