The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the largest event for discussions and negotiations on climate change. The negotiations at COP29 centred around three key questions on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) – what will the amount be? who will contribute? and who will be eligible? The final goal of USD 300 million annually by 2035 was agreed by Parties.
Blue Marine Foundation’s Climate team hosted an event at the Ocean Pavilion on the policy brief ‘Blue Thread: Aligning Climate and Biodiversity Strategies‘ alongside the Ocean & Climate Platform and 12 other partner organisations. The brief was launched ahead of COP16 (Convention on Biological Diversity) in Cali, Colombia, and focuses on aligning national climate and biodiversity strategies. This policy brief demonstrates that despite having separate mandates, the CBD and UNFCCC can effectively collaborate and support alignment at the national level.
