Our Seas Coalition

Blue Marine is a member of the Our Seas coalition, a growing organisation of over 156 marine businesses, community groups, Scottish fishing associations, environmental and charitable organisations and marine recreational groups, raising awareness of the urgent need to protect our coastal seabed. Our Seas is calling for a coastal limit that protects at least 30% of Scotland inshore seas from bottom-trawling and scallop dredging delivered through a just transition and supported by legal, ecological and economic arguments. The Coalition champions the need for recovery of our inshore seas and the benefits this brings for fisheries, communities and local economies.

The ask: Over 14,000 people have already signed the Our Seas Coalition’s petition calling on the Scottish Government to protect at least 30% of Scotland’s inshore waters from bottom trawling and dredging.

Film description – Our Seas film ‘The Limit’ explores the drastic decline in Scotland’s fish populations and hidden damage to the seabed, and looks at how the connection between people and the life in our oceans can be restored.
