A Baseline Description of the Benthic Assemblages of Les Sauvages Reef, Jersey

Les Sauvages, a biodiverse reef at the edge of Jersey’s waters, hosts rare and endangered species. Recent surveys show its biodiversity is significantly higher than in other protected areas. Despite its importance, it remains unprotected and vulnerable to fishing. The report urges immediate protection and inclusion in Jersey’s Marine Spatial Plan to preserve its critical habitats.

Restoring the Sturgeon to Irish Waters

The sturgeon has an ancient lineage; It has been swimming in rivers and seas since Jurassic times, 201-145 million years ago. For this reason, they are sometimes referred to as ‘living dinosaurs’. Yet few in Ireland have any living memory of the fish. This is a loss not only for the ecosystems upon which we depend but also for our culture and heritage.
