An Ocean Adventure is a free, highly interactive makerzine created by Blue Marine Foundation and Planetari. Designed for ages 8–12, it brings ocean science, geography and global citizenship to life through real‑world stories and hands‑on activities. It helps pupils explore marine ecosystems and human impact, while giving teachers clear, child‑friendly explanations of key concepts.

Ways to use it in the classroom

  • Science, Geography or PSHE lessons
  • Project‑based learning and inquiry
  • Independent research for confident readers
  • Homework tasks (posters, letters, creative writing)
  • Clubs or enrichment days on sustainability or the ocean
  • Cross‑curricular events such as Oceans Week or Climate Week

In 2022, Blue Marine partnered with Planetari, an education platform aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) with the potential to reach over 40 million children in five years. Together we created an educational ‘makerzine’ called An Ocean Adventure. With pop-up sections and lots of interaction, the makerzine is a fun way of exploring the ocean – the creatures, the geography, the science and the threats. By using illustrated examples from Blue Marine’s project sites, we enable children to visualise ocean conservation from anywhere in the world.
