The EU has threatened Britain with a fishing and trade war unless it reverses a marine protection ban on sand eel fishing, aimed at conserving wildlife including puffins and porpoises.

Countries with fishing rights in British waters, including Denmark, Sweden and France, are pushing back against the ban on catching the small fish on Dogger Bank in the North Sea.
