Indigenous communities are critical stewards of intrinsic knowledge about how to live in harmony with the natural world.
Weaving Futures Together Summit 2025 brought together Indigenous communities from every continent to share ancestral knowledge about restoring and maintaining environmental connectivity. The event recognised the importance of incorporating indigenous knowledge into management planning strategies that tackle local and global conservation challenges.
In collaboration with the Namibia Nature Foundation and the NIMPA+ Project, Blue Marine Foundation co-developed the Namibian Ocean Literacy Toolkit, a learning resource designed to expand ocean education. The toolkit highlighted Namibia’s Topnaar Community as holding vital insights into the marine environment and coastal history of Namibia, as well as rich traditions and practices that build connectivity with the ocean. The toolkit celebrates Namibia’s marine cultural heritage and engages with the conservation of this unique ecosystem.
