  • Clare Brook

    Chief Executive Officer

    Clare joined Blue Marine as Chief Financial Officer in 2014 and became CEO in March 2015. Prior to that she was a pioneer of environmental investing, managing sustainable investment funds at Jupiter, NPI and Henderson. She established the sustainable investment division of Aviva in 2000 and co-founded WHEB Asset Management in 2008.

  • Dan Crockett

    Executive Director

    Dan Crockett directs policy, development and climate teams at Blue Marine. He works strategically to lead global ocean conservation initiatives, bringing together partners to collaborate effectively and drive impact. He focuses on several challenges including marine protected areas and improving ocean governance. He operates at a global level, speaking regularly at international events and representing the organisation internationally. He is a passionate surfer and freediver.

  • Dr Judith Brown

    Projects Director

    After starting diving at 14, Jude has always had a passion for the life in our oceans. Working for 20 years in the UK overseas territories and globally on commercial fisheries, sustainable aquaculture and marine protected area management she is now working on Blue Marine’s international projects.

  • Jo Coumbe

    Communications Director

    Jo leads media, campaigns, education and communications at Blue Marine, which is now a global force in the conservation world. Working from her coastal home in Cornwall, Jo has delivered some of Blue Marine’s most successful and high-profile campaigns including #BackTheBlueBelt, which led to the protection of 4.3 million kms2 of ocean in UK Overseas Territories. She is a former journalist and editor at the Guardian and Trinity Mirror.

  • Emily Norris

    Development Director

    Emily was previously Head of Business Development at cleantech start-up bio-bean, the first UK company to industrialise the recycling of waste coffee grounds into biofuels, having joined the company at its inception. Emily studied Biological Sciences at Oxford University, specialising in species conservation and marine ecology.

    Lynne is an ACCA qualified accountant with a passion for being underwater. Witnessing first-hand the effects of overfishing and pollution on marine life drew her from the corporate environment to the marine environment and as the Finance Director of Blue Marine, she helps protect our oceans through her love of spreadsheets.

    Cofounder and Senior Consultant

    Charles made his name as an author and environmental journalist writing principally for The Sunday Times and The Daily Telegraph for which he was Environment Editor for 22 years. His book The End of The Line and the award-winning documentary film that it inspired raised overfishing as a global problem.

  • Max Bello

    Global MPA Specialist

    Max is an international ocean policy expert with almost three decades of experience. He has worked for The Minderoo Foundation, The Pew Charitable Trusts, Oceana, World Wildlife Fund, the Blue Whale Center, Mission Blue and Island Conservation. Bello has worked with the UN and UN conventions and bodies, serving as the UNFCCC COP25 Presidential Committee Ocean Representative in 2019. Additionally, Bello has worked with worldwide governments to establish marine protected areas.

    Head of Finance

    Dave, an ACCA qualified accountant, started his career in the commercial sector, working across various different roles within finance and leading a CSR team. Attentions first turned towards the ocean during a diving and surfing trip to Central America. Now a full convert, Dave works to preserve and protect our blue world.

    Head of Projects Conservation

    Halfway across the Pacific in an old sailboat, Rory came across an unregistered fishing vessel hauling tonnes of illegally caught bluefin tuna from the ocean. He sailed right home to help Blue Marine to reverse the crisis of overfishing. He is a Plymouth graduate with a love for underwater photography and surfing.

  • Matthew Peckett

    Head of Operations

    Matthew grew up in New Zealand, where his love for diving and the ocean began. He is a Commercial Helicopter Instructor, Wealth Manager and most recently, leader of Europe in Strategic Partnerships for an Anti-Human Trafficking organisation. He looks forward to using his Operational, Financial, and NGO experience in conservation operations.

  • Jess Rattle

    Head of Investigations

    As Head of Blue Marine’s Investigations Unit, Jess works to research, expose and combat harmful and unsustainable fishing practices. Jess’s current focus is on the mismanagement of tuna stocks by RFMOs, as well as on the UK Government’s role in supporting potentially catastrophic deep-sea mining. She has a master’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Cape Town and is a dual British-South African national.

    Head of Partnerships

    Sara-Jane used her experience in events management, design and marketing to set up a company in Indonesia helping to support domestic and international brands across the Asia Pacific region. Back in the UK, where she was brought up close to the Channel, she has brought her expertise and affinity with the sea to Blue Marine.

    Head of People and Culture

    Collette is a CIPD qualified HR Professional and joined Blue Marine in January 2024 after spending over a decade advising on people centric working practices to corporate industries. She loves listening to the sound of the ocean and is passionate about people and our connection to the natural world around us.

    Head of Governance and Legal Affairs

    Tom is Blue Marine’s Head of Governance and Legal Affairs and is a former commercial property lawyer, working in the marine charity sector. He is a former trustee of a commercial port and has helped to establish various NGOs. Tom is also an Associate Professor at the University of the West of England.

    Priyal is a lawyer qualified in English, French and Mauritian law. She is an alumna of the Sorbonne law school and the Environmental Change Institute at the University of Oxford. She previously worked as legal consultant for the UN. Having grown up on the island of Mauritius, she is passionate about the ocean.

    Juliette has a lifelong commitment to environmental protection and the sea, with a cross-border career across corporates, institutions and other organisations. She also has an extensive interdisciplinary legal research portfolio, always seeking to associate public and private, academia and practice. She is trilingual English, French, and Italian, and can’t do without her daily swim.

    Education Lead

    Victoria left her role as Head of Geography in Norfolk to explore opportunities in conservation education in Greece. Working with the Ionian Environment Foundation, she designed an experiential learning programme to enrich the Greek curriculum and went on to become their Executive Director. Joining us, Victoria is determined to see compelling Ocean Literacy incorporated into formal education curricula around the world.

    Senior Italy Projects Manager

    Giulia Bernardi is a marine biologist coordinating Blue Marine’s Italian projects. She works on the improvement of Italian marine protection plans and on the encouragement of responsible small-scale fishing practices. She is an SSI scuba instructor and she has a PhD from the University Parthenope of Naples.

    Primarily focused on domestic fisheries and marine conservation policy, Jonny leads Blue Marine’s work on improving fisheries management and marine policy. Prior to this Jonny led on the Pew Trusts UK fisheries work and brings significant experience of domestic, European and international fisheries management and conservation policy.

    Sam has led marine conservation initiatives in the UK for over 20 years. She has an MSc in Marine Science from the University of California.

    Fiona Joined Blue in 2023, bringing 15+ years of experience in delivering collaborative and innovative ocean science, conservation, and policy initiatives around the world. Fiona holds an MSc in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation and is passionate about creating systemic change to ensure the future of our ocean. As Blue’s Senior International Project Manager, Fiona is currently focusing on working with local partners to restore and protect marine biodiversity in the Caribbean region.

    Jenny manages various marine restoration projects across the UK. She was inspired by the ocean during her early childhood years in the Caribbean. Graduating with an MRes in Marine Biology, she went on to work in Government. Jenny’s experience ranges from fisheries policy, marine protected areas advice, and marine management.

    Senior Project Manager

    Jean-Luc has a background in marine biology, most fascinated by interactions of marine species and habitats. After training in the UK, Australia and Jamaica, he has worked with scientists, policy makers and regulators to deliver well-managed MPAs throughout Britain and the EU. He is a visiting research fellow at the University of Plymouth providing knowledge at the policy/science interface.

    Geo has 20 years of experience in Communications, including 12 years collaborating with non-profit organisations, where she has designed and implemented cross-platform communications strategies. In 2023, she led the communications team that succeeded in creating the largest and most recent Marine Protected Area in the Gulf of Mexico.

    Elisabeth joined Blue Marine in April 2025 as EU Project Manager and is based in Brussels. She has over 15 years of experience in the field of ocean governance and fisheries policies at the EU and global levels and work experiences with the European Commission, a research institute and NGOs. She studied maritime law and the law of the sea in France.

    Jake joined the team in 2021, initially based in the Maldives focusing on various sustainable fisheries initiatives. He now works across Blue Marine’s international projects and oversees the integration of conservation technology within Blue Marine’s international project portfolio. Jake holds an MSc in Marine Systems and Policies from the University of Edinburgh.

    Science Programme Manager

    Gail is working on Blue Marine’s biggest project yet; researching how sustainable ocean use can preserve seabed carbon stores. She joined after more than four years managing protected areas in the outer islands of Seychelles, and a year as a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Sussex, where she had previously graduated with an MRes in Conservation Biology.

    Louise spent her childhood beachcombing along the Pembrokeshire coast. Since studying Marine Biology at the University of Liverpool she has worked on conservation projects in the UK and overseas. Louise has lived on the shores of the Solent for more than a decade and is passionate about restoring its intricate marine habitats.

    Hamish spent his childhood surfing on the north coast of Scotland and has always been passionate about nature and its role in the world. After spending 25 years in the performing arts sector, he is now using his experience for Blue Marine’s flagship annual charity event, London to Monaco.

    Italian Projects Communications Manager

    Ambra is working as communications lead for Blue Marine’s Italian projects. She is also collaborating with the Sicily Environment Fund as communications manager and she has been Director of the Aeolian Islands Preservation Foundation. She has recently collaborated with the Italian National Research Council’s Institute of Atmospheric Pollution (CNR-IIA).

    Climate Project Manager

    James joined Blue Marine in April 2022 after spending four months in Indonesia, surfing and volunteering with community-led mangrove restoration. James has previous experience in environmental and social consultancy and corporate sustainability, with a focus on natural climate solutions, where he became fascinated by the diverse benefits of blue carbon projects.

    Joe was a Marine Ranger for the Berwickshire Marine Reserve before joining Blue Marine at the beginning of 2019 as the Berwickshire Project Officer. Prior to this Joe worked on coral reef projects in the Gulf of Thailand. He has an MSc from Heriot Watt University in Climate Change: Managing the Marine Environment.
  • Jade Rolph

    Convex Seascape Survey Programme Manager

    Jade has spent nearly twenty years working in the charity sector, primarily account managing partnerships between amazing causes and major corporate funders. Having spent a decade at a medical research charity, she is excited to be back working alongside the scientific community on the Convex Seascape Survey. A keen swimmer, she’ll take a dip in anything bigger than a puddle and particularly loves the East Anglian coast.

    Freddie joined Blue Marine in May 2021, as an intern on our Jersey project. He now manages our projects in the wider Channel Islands, focussing on delivering Marine Protected Areas through scientific research, education, policy, sustainable financing and stakeholder engagement. His passion for surfing and spearfishing sparked an interest in the ocean, leading to a degree in Ocean Sciences from the University of Liverpool.

    Marina has worked in the charity and arts sectors since leaving Edinburgh University where she studied French and Portuguese.     Adrian Gahan has been advising Blue on government engagement since 2017. Adrian is a former adviser to a number of MPs and Lords, was Managing Director of sustainability consultancy Sancroft, is a co-founder of the Conservative Environment Network and chairs the Great Blue Ocean coalition of NGOs.

    Andrew has been advising Blue Marine since 2017, after 30 years working in business. A Biology graduate, he was a trustee of the Hertfordshire Wildlife Trust for nine years.     Rosalie is a marine ecologist and passionate about all things ocean-related, particularly community-engaged restoration. Prior to joining Blue Marine, she spent three years working in coral reef research and ocean outreach at the University of Oxford Seascape Ecology Lab, and as a Programme Co-ordinator for the United Nations Global Compact Network UK.

    Senior Blue Economist

    Kaija joined Blue Marine in 2021 after completing her MSc in Environmental Economics and Policy at Imperial College London. Passionate about the marine environment, she wrote her thesis on the impacts of socioeconomics on coastal ecosystem valuation. Kaija is passionate about exploring innovative financing mechanisms to help protect the ocean.

    Aisling joins Blue Marine after 4 years working on domestic marine policy within Defra. She has worked on the Benyon HPMA Review and as Private Secretary to the Environment Secretary to increase her knowledge of Whitehall and UK policy making. A keen scuba diver, she is determined to highlight the ability of the ocean to contribute to climate goals.

    George has a background in condensed matter physics and geophysics, and after a period working in industry joined the Greenpeace UK Oceans team in 2019. He has experience across a wide range of marine conservation investigations and campaigns, both in the UK and internationally.

    Nicki is an ecological economist focused on addressing the funding gap for marine conservation. Before joining Blue in 2024, she spent two years working on natural capital assessments and sustainable land-use projects in the UK. Her love for the ocean runs deep – having grown up in Cape Town as a keen surfer and cold-water enthusiast.

    Campaigner

    Sarah is a Campaigner, with experience working in campaigning and policy on a broad range of environmental and conservation issues in the NGO sector. She has led impactful campaigns focused on combating wildlife trade, mitigating climate change and protecting wildlife species. She has a Master’s degree in Conservation Biology and she spends much of her free time in the North Cornwall Sea, where she is based.

    As a Solent/Isle of Wight native who spent a few years growing up by the ocean in Australia, Rebecca loves the sea and is passionate about communicating the importance of nature. Following undergraduate and MSc degrees at Durham University and UCL, she worked as a professional archaeologist; alongside this, she worked for eight years in communications for a national environmental and heritage charity before joining Blue Marine Foundation.

    Tim is an enthusiastic environmental communicator, having worked for both advertising and PR agencies focused on sustainability. He is working on creating engaging social media content on blue carbon for the Convex Seascape Survey. Outside of Blue, you’ll find him selling vintage clothes for his retro clothing business.

    Tilly studied Geography at the Universities of Manchester and Toronto and has worked for a number of NGOs abroad including the European Solidarity Corps in Bosnia Herzegovina and working for children’s educational programmes in Jakarta. Jasmine is passionate about tackling overfishing and is focused on improving fisheries management and policy in the UK.

    Sean is Blue Marine’s Scotland Outreach and Engagement Officer, with a background in marine conservation (MSc), science education and community engagement. He previously worked in research developing AI camera technology to reduce bycatch and has extensive experience inspiring young people to take climate and ocean action. Sean is passionate about connecting communities with Scotland’s seas.

  • Barny Hobbs

    Solent Oyster Restoration Officer

    Following a year spent getting wet and muddy researching the seagrass meadows of Plymouth for his MSc in Marine Conservation, Barny spent several years in UK fisheries management both on and offshore, from the North Sea to the Scilly Isles. He joined Blue Marine in 2025 and looks forward to getting wet and muddy in the service of restoring native habitats in the Solent.

  • Alea Laidlaw

    Information Officer

    Alea is a science communicator who worked for the Maldives Underwater Initiative, Marine Conservation Institute, and the International Ocean Film Festival. She majored in the Science in Society Program at Wesleyan University and has conducted research in Australia and Hawaii. She is passionate about environmental storytelling and the intersectionality between public health and marine conservation.

    Jersey Project Officer

    Cordeil is a marine biologist from Jersey with a passion for the ocean, which inspired him to earn a BSc in Marine Biology from Heriot-Watt University and qualify as a PADI Divemaster. He has worked on conservation projects across South East Asia and Jersey, and recently taught A-level marine biology in Indonesia. Now back in Jersey, he is committed to protecting and promoting the seas that shaped him.
  • Kathryn Smith

    Jersey Project Officer

    Growing up in Jersey, Kathryn has always had a deep connection to the sea, and working in Mauritius as a conservation biologist further fortified her passion for marine and island conservation. Prior to this, she spent five years as a bird keeper at Jersey Zoo, after graduating from the University of Exeter with a BSc in Biological Sciences.

    Francesco has an MSc in Zoology from the University of Sussex; he has lead Sussex’s marine invasive species project at ZSL. He joined Blue Marine to co-lead our Sussex Potting Surveys. He now focuses on our sturgeon project and supports the UK projects team, specialising in statistical and spatial analysis.

    Graduate Scheme

    Ryan joined Blue Marine in 2025 after completing his MSc in Environment, Politics, and Society at UCL, where he explored the role of NGOs in high seas conservation. His passion for ocean protection began after witnessing the shark fin trade in Hong Kong, an experience that shaped his commitment to tackling marine threats and amplifying youth voices in ocean advocacy.

    Graduate Scheme

    Izzy deepened her passion for ocean protection while living in Cornwall during her MSc in Conservation Science & Policy, after studying at Cambridge University. She has worked at organisations including UNEP-WCMC, volunteered with a grassroots marine NGO in Mozambique, and is a keen diver and surfer. Izzy is looking forward to supporting Blue Marine’s interdisciplinary approach to conservation.

    George produced the documentary film The End of The Line which alerted the world to the crisis in our oceans and which won the 2011 Puma Creative Impact Award. Determined to keep the momentum for change going, he co-founded Blue Marine. He is a Founding Partner of Ocean 14 Capital, an Impact investment fund for the Oceans.

    Chris is a social entrepreneur focused on solving the ocean crisis. He co-founded Blue Marine after the award-winning documentary film The End of the Line, for which he was Executive Producer. Chris is a Founding partner of Ocean 14 Capital, a €200M leading Ocean impact fund focused on ensuring a healthy ocean for everyone through a sustainable and regenerative blue economy.

  • Zac Goldsmith

    Trustee

    Zac Goldsmith has devoted his entire professional life to the environment – first as editor of the Ecologist magazine, then as an MP and Government Minister, and now as a Conservative peer in the House of Lords in the United Kingdom. In 2019, Zac was appointed as a Minister attending Cabinet with portfolios across the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. He served as a Minister of State until June 2023, when he resigned citing the Government’s increasing apathy in the face of the environmental and climate crisis. As a Minister, his responsibilities over the years included forests, oceans, biodiversity, climate change and the illegal wildlife trade as well as the Pacific region and UK Overseas Territories.

    Celine is a World Economic Forum (WEF) Young Global Leader and has held numerous international advisory board and committee roles on climate change, sustainable finance, biodiversity, resilience, and technology and innovation for the UN, WEF, G20, World Bank, EU and a number of governments. A climate scientist and NASA Fellow by training, Dr Herweijer holds a PhD, MPhil and Masters in Climate Modelling and Policy from Columbia University, New York. Until the end of 2024 she was the HSBC Group’s Chief Sustainability Officer.

    Charles has a portfolio of non-Executive Director roles including at Malaria Consortium US and TouchBase Centre CiC, and previously at Malaria and Public Health Ltd, and The Operations Partnership Ltd. Charles was Chief Executive at Malaria Consortium. This followed a career in business leadership, medical emergency response, management consulting, insurance, logistics and manufacturing. He has a B.Sc. in Chemistry from University of Liverpool with subsidiary in oceanography. He brings experience in international charity leadership and governance, international marketing and organisation design.

Also, she is the Chair of Social Investment Business and she sits on the board of the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association (UKSIF).

    Sofia is currently a Strategic and Policy Advisor at G20 CORDAP (Coral Research & Development Accelerator Platform), where she is researching seagrass conservation in the Balearic islands, with a particular focus on Posidonia and Blue Carbon projects.
