A major transport and communication route, the Atlantic has contributed significantly to the development and economy of the countries with which it shares a shoreline. The ocean is divided along the Equator into the north and south Atlantic, and its shelves host one of the world’s richest fishing resources.

Blue Marine’s initiatives in these waters stretch from Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil in South America, to the African nations of Namibia and Sao Tome & Principe. We also work to protect the High Seas that separate the continents, as well as tracts of ocean around Atlantic islands such as the Canaries, and the UK Overseas Territories of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cuñha, and the seamount chain of Walvis Ridge off the coast of southern Africa.
