The Ocean News Podcast spoke to Louise MacCallum, Blue Marine Foundation’s Solent Restoration Project Manager, and Richard Walters, the project’s artist in residence, about Walters’ new album ‘Songs From the Solent’. Walters’ record is a deeply place-based work that weaves together music, community voices and conservation science. The project reflects a growing movement within conservation to embed art directly into environmental initiatives – not as an add-on, but as a core way of connecting people to nature. Louise told Oceanographic “we’re very aware that we need communities to come along with us. People need to care about the places around them if we’re going to restore wildlife at scale.”
