Assessment of Carbon Capture and Storage in Natural Systems within the English North Sea

This report was commissioned by the North Sea Wildlife Trusts, Blue Marine Foundation, WWF and the RSPB to assess the extent, scale, distribution, and potential of the current blue carbon sinks in the English North Sea. The focus was to review the current extent and distribution of each blue carbon habitat, estimate the quantity of carbon currently stored within these habitats, establish the average net sequestration rate and estimate the potential net total sequestration of each blue carbon habitat.

National Marine Parks - A Vision for British Seas

In the 1949 National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, no-one thought about the sea being part of a National Park. “ Blue Marine Foundation has created this vision to start a conversation and invite you to join a new journey – to explore where and how this could work for Britain.” Natasha Bradshaw, National Marine Parks Research Advisor. This is the start of a conversation about the purpose and benefits of National Marine Parks in Britain.

Report to Inform Appropriate Assessment of Fishing Operations on the Dogger Bank SACs

The Dogger Bank has protected status as three Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) under the EU Habitats Directive. However, the site is intensively fished by fleets from the UK and EU Member States. Despite designation as Sites of Community Importance back in 2007 (Germany), 2009 (The Netherlands) and 2012 (UK), no active management measures are in place to restrict the use of ecologically damaging fishing gears.
