It can grow to 20 feet in length, live for more than 100 years and if you catch one of these critically endangered “royal fish” and land it in Britain you must offer it to the Queen.

Charles Clover, executive director of the Blue Marine Foundation, a member of the alliance, said that records were likely to cover only a tiny proportion of the actual sturgeon catches on Dogger Bank, indicating that it was once an important feeding ground for the fish.
