Following Jersey’s plans to protect 30 per cent of its fishing areas by 2030, Sark’s government is aiming to establish a marine protected area around its territorial waters. The island’s politicians will be asked to agree to the principles of a vision for formal designation, before consulting with wider parties. Blue Marine Foundation supported the Agriculture, Environment and Sea Fisheries Committee in drawing up this vision. Freddie Watson, Channel Islands Project Manager at Blue Marine, said the move would ‘place Sark firmly on the global marine protection map, ensuring its waters are safeguarded in the long term, benefitting nature, climate and generations to come.’
