President Gabriel Boric has signed a decree that fully protects 337,000 sq km of the waters around the Juan Fernández and Nazca-Desventuradas marine parks.

At the third plenary session, Chile announced its commitment to ocean protection by expanding Juan Fernández MPA. This effort will add 350,000 sq km of protection. With this, Chile’s EEZ protection will go over 50 per cent, placing it among the world’s leading ocean guardians.
