A global deficit in marine education, also known as ocean literacy, has historically prevented knowledge from reaching the general public, which in turn slows uptake into environmental policy. Education therefore serves both the ecosystems we strive to protect and the young people whose future depends on them.

Through education, we can lay the groundwork for a generation of ocean advocates who will drive change and influence the management of marine resources. We firmly believe that global marine education is not just a priority, but a necessity for developing inclusive, equitable, and effective strategies to protect and restore our ocean.

To do this Blue Education does two things:

  • Works on the ground in project locations where partners have reported a weak connection to the ocean. From Jersey’s snorkel trails to St Helena’s dive scholarships, Blue Education has been instrumental in building support for MPAs.
  • Creates free educational resources combining innovative tech with curriculum-linked content to globally distribute ocean-education. This has included our award winning  The Sea We Breathe’ and the our Ocean Observatories.
