Blue Marine Foundation played a key role in supporting Jersey’s first Marine Spatial Plan, which was unanimously approved in October 2024. The plan significantly expands Marine Protected Areas to cover 23% of Jersey’s territorial waters and bans destructive fishing practices such as dredging and trawling in these zones. Blue Marine worked closely with local stakeholders, providing expertise and advocacy to help design the plan’s three-tiered management system: Regulated Fishing Zones, Seabed Protection Zones, and No Take Zones. Their involvement has been vital in balancing marine conservation goals with sustainable fishing practices, fostering healthier marine ecosystems around Jersey.
