Yellowfin tuna in the Indian Ocean, classified as “near threatened,” faces severe overfishing due to weak management by the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC), with insufficient catch reductions, inadequate monitoring, and poor enforcement, putting both the species and the broader marine ecosystem at risk.
